If you go down to the library today you're in for a big surprise...

Monday 30 May - 10.30am - Stoke Library

Wednesday 1 June - 10am - Meir Library

We’re inviting our youngest library visitors to come along to one of our fabulous Teddy Bears Picnics to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

We’ll be sharing songs, rhymes and music to get everyone singing along.

And we wouldn’t want our best cuddly friends to miss out, so we’d love you to bring your teddy bears (or any other cuddly toys you might like to snuggle with) along to celebrate as well!

Feel free to get your little ones dressed up to celebrate!

Snacks will be provided.

Recommended Reads for May! 🌸

Our theme for this month is World Culture. 🌎

The first read is “The same but different too”.
Shortlisted for the Sainsbury's Children's Picture Book Award 2019

These children and animals are all very different to each other. Some are big, some are small. Some are gentle, some are rough. Everyone is playful, but who's the best at hiding? One thing's certain: they all love a good bedtime story! The perfect picture book for little ones who are just beginning to make sense of their place in the world.

The second book called Journey to Jo’burg by Beverley Naidoo is an inspirational tale suitable for older children based on 13 year old Naledi and her younger brother running away to ding their mother who works in Johannesburg as a maid. Their journey shows the realities of racism, family life and past laws.

The third book “Shark Called” by Zillah Bethell is:A SUNDAY TIMES CHILDREN'S BOOK OF THE WEEK

Dive beneath the waves with this spell-binding adventure of friendship, forgiveness and bravery, set on the shores of Papua New Guinea, perfect for fans of Katherine Rundell and Eva Ibbotson.

"I want to be able to call the sharks. Teach me the magic and show me the ways."

Blue Wing is desperate to become a shark caller, but instead she must befriend infuriating newcomer Maple, who arrives unexpectedly on Blue Wing's island.

At first, the girls are too angry to share their secrets and become friends. But when the tide breathes the promise of treasure, they must journey together to the bottom of the ocean to brave the deadliest shark of them all...

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have 2 special events that children will be able to take part in to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

On Friday June 10th, we will be celebrating IN school with a special day. More details of this will follow.

On Saturday June 4th, children will be able to take part in a community event, by being part of a Jubilee Parade. This is during half term. If you would like your child to take part in the parade in half term, please return the slip from the letters sent out yesterday.

We are all very excited to take part in these exciting events to celebrate 70 Years of Queen Elizabeth as our Queen.
