Sneyd Academy is committed to providing an engaging curriculum with a variety of opportunities for children to gain skills, knowledge and understanding both across the curriculum and to prepare them for secondary education and beyond. We believe that the teaching of basic skills is essential to ensuring that children can be successful in every sphere of their life. We ensure that these basic skills include:

• A sound knowledge of phonics. We use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds scheme to teach phonics.
• Strong skills in reading and writing. The children enjoy books mainly from the Pearson Bug Club reading scheme. Those children who are learning to read through phonics will access the Collins Big Cat books to ensure they develop their fluency.
• A firm grasp of number bonds
• Fast recall of multiplication facts

Each Year group has a long term plan which sets out the learning for the year, and every half term parents are provided with topic diaries to help them support their children at home.
