We would like to take this opportunity to introduce the PTFA and invite you to join us. It might sound scary to get involved but before you dismiss the idea keep reading!!! It is good fun, very rewarding and, ultimately, has a positive impact on YOUR child.

What/Who are the PTFA?

PTFA Stands for Parents, Teachers and Friends Association. It is currently a small team, consisting of parents and staff members who meet regularly and give up their spare time for free to plan events for families to enjoy and raise money.

The good news is that as you are a parent at the school you are automatically a member of the PTFA. Grandparents, friends, neighbours and other family members are also welcome to get involved.

What does the PTFA Do?

The PTFA is responsible for many of the social and fundraising events that take place as part of school life. Over the last few years we have organised: Discos, Christmas Fairs, Summer Fairs & Firework nights.

Why do you do it?

The PTFA helps to ensure that there are opportunities for families to come together socially and to raise money for the school.

All money raised goes to support your child and enhance their school experience. Each year teaching staff are able to put in a bid for funds and the PTFA committee allocate funds as appropriate to ensure that the maximum number of children benefit.

Among other things we have provided funding to help out with the cost of school trips, purchased new books/bookcases, paid for the whole school to experience a pantomime, and more recently a new sound system.

Should I get involved?

Yes, we would love you to get involved. Here are top reasons why you should.

It is a great way to meet people and make friends. It directly benefits the school –and therefore your child, It is a great way to develop new skills and/or share existing ones, It can enhance your CV, It gives you the opportunity to try new things, It makes the world a better place.

What would it involve?

It can involve as much, or as little as you can manage. It might be that you can come to every meeting and get very involved- Fantastic we’d love to have you!

It might be that you can donate a raffle price, turn up to man the refreshments stall at a disco, stick raffle tickets on tombola prizes as we prepare for the Christmas fair, stick up a poster to advertise an event in your local shop- the possibilities are endless.

If your employer supports volunteering you might be eligible to apply for match funding- so for every hour you volunteer- or every pound you raise the employer gives a donation- this helps tremendously.

I have questions. Where can I get more information? Contact the school office on office@sneydacademy.co.uk or by phone on 01782 234 460.

The school is a happy and positive community.
